Nope, regular flying from Portland and Seattle to Tokyo (NRT).
Sometimes we will fly a little north (into Russian airspace) for turbulence or headwind avoidance.

The planet was very bright, and looking at this planetary position chart , it looks to me that Saturn is night viewing, while Venus is right there as the "morning star", and Jupiter should be high overhead just before sunrise.

Could be Saturn, but I'll settle for Ms. Venus !! :)

could it be due to sunlight creating a rainbow in moist air by reflecting off the clouds? i've seen it a few times but haven't given it much thought
